I can check the manual when I get a chance but I think it's around 75 MPH. There is a button on the dash to deploy it manually if you like. Only time I do that is when I am drying off the car - lots of water hiding in there!

This is a question without much importance...

I assume that the spoiler really only serves a cosmetic purpose. I don't imagine that a small wing that is not even shaped as an airfoil and not too involved in the airflow would actually serve the purpose of holding the car down on the road. ...particularly at U.S. highway speeds under 90 mph.

Even though I like the look, it may also act as a signal to cops that we are or have been speeding.

Thoughts?

it doesnt seem like mine goes up until i hit 85. I have had those thoughts re: the cops and the spoiler. If the entire basis for pulling someone over for speeding is the spoiler then that is very weak, and then simply show the officer the button inside which lifts the spoiler and let them know you always push that button when you get on the highway.....

Mine too - goes up at an indicated speed of 85 MPH. But I assume that it is going up at an actual speed of 80.7 MPH and that my indicated speed reads too high as it has on every other German car I've ever owned.

?
You're right, downforce is not the goal, but a reduction in drag probably is. There would be some small efficiency benefit at sustained high speeds that North American drivers are unlikely to experience.

I also believe it's to reduce drag. It does provide some downforce but it's only about 2kg
