I am considering purchasing this 2003 s8 with 176k miles. The miles concern me but the car has only 2 owners. 2nd owner had car since feb 2004 with 31k miles in colorado springs. The owner had it serviced at an audi store throughout its life and the carfax shows significant and consistent service.

With that said what should i look out for before purchasing or ask. Keep ij mind i am in raleigh nc and the car is in Colorado springs.

I have looked for an s8 for a while but many dont have records or many owners 6+ at times. Thanks for any advice.

2001 S8

Have you tried looking in Audi World's Marketplace? I found three S8's that have mechanical records, low number of owners and less mileage than the A8L you're looking at.

Thanks. I was aware of 2 of them. I am looking for an automatic so I passed on the manual. The other option needs a/c repair and owner stated it could be a compressor which typically is a costly repair.

Sorry missed 2003 S8, not A8L. At that mileage check the following:

• Transmission service(s)
• T-belt service(s)
• Oil cooler pipe service/condition
• Suspension: control arms, struts, sway bar links, etc..
• Brakes & Rotors
• Fluids Changed
• Missing exterior pieces (fog light grill covers, grills, badging) It's amazing how little things like those can break a car like this.

At that mileage, the transmission would be my first concern.

At 176K miles, the clock is ticking away on a transmission rebuild (not a simple service...useless) or replacement @ ~ $4000 +

Thanks. I will have to have the seller take to do a ppi prior to purchase to check these items. Car fax shows a lot of maintenance.

Are the transmissions known to fail at this mileage?

Yes and quite often much lower miles.
