On the FL (I think all D2) you can flip the cruise off or tap the brakes. Also try the pushing the set if you want to coast but then it engages when you release the set button.

I wish there was a soft reset button on the stalk, I end up tapping the brake but this is less-than-ideal, I do not like showing brake lights when I am not really braking.
I prefer the stick in the 80's-early 90's Porsches for this type of function.

On our cars, you gently push the small cruise control lever forward and that disengages the cruise control but retains the set speed in memory. If you push the lever all the way forward, that disables and turns off the cruise control system.

I assume uber's post refers to newer Audis and not the D2? On the D2 the cruise control is on the stalk that also controls the headlight hi/dipped beam and high beam flash.

I find a short press on the "set" button drops me about 2mph when I tap it with my foot off the gas. Monkeying with the stalk forward/back does not seem to do anything. I have not found a "cancel" soft switch but have not resorted to reading the manual.

Thanks for the tip! I always used the brake to disengage cruise control. I tried the "control lever forward" last night and it worked perfectly.

Nope, don't push the stalk forward. Slide the cruise control switch (circled in yellow) towards the steering column/off but slide it quickly. If you hold to long, cruise control will turn off.

Thanks, but I had some trouble with trying that. I was able to cancel the cruise with a bump towards "off" on the stalk however after that my cruise would not set, I even tried shutting the car off and restarting at a traffic light. Eventually after leaving the cruise off for a couple minutes I was able to get it to set again. I think I made it mad.
