Dead 2001 S8. Options?

Dead 2001 S8. Options?
The transmission finally went (for the 2nd time). There's not enough value in the car to warrant fixing it.
2001, cold weather package, 168,000 miles, strong engine, new alternator, new heater blower, newer (6 months) rebuilt steering rack. All 5 original rims. Have both front license plate insert and front blank.
Transmission dead (slips when it's cold, in limp mode once it warms up). driver's side front window cracked (intact, and a boneyard replacement is $80), sunroof and driver's side window control of passenger front window intermittent, missing right front foglight grille.
Any ideas? My mechanic would like it off of his lot.

My S8 is in the shop as I write this.
Its going to cost 4K for engine heads up job. and 1K to do the rest of its remaining service items. Including changing the trans fluid and filter.
The S8 has 120K miles. when the tranny fails I will pay the $3500 to have it rebuilt.
My A8 has the rebuilt tranny from prior A8 that lost in head to head with stone wall.
If my S8 dies of natural causes or is murdered by me (see wall)
I will pull my rebuilt tranny as a spare to my next S8.
this cycle can go on for another 10 years as nobody wants to keep these cars on the road.
I bought the a8 for $3k and the s8 for $5k.
Since you have been such a long time on this board and live in a major city where you can get a good rebuild at fair price, I can only think that you are either ready to move on from the D2's or this S8 is pretty beat up.
If you are moving on - I'm curious what car an S8 driver moves on to?
Have your eye on anything?

Let's take the 'value' out of the equation for the moment. 'Value' or 'worth' is a backwards argument anyway, as cars are money pits (so you may as well have one you like). The only cars you will ever make money on are rare and desirable ones - the S8 is the first, but for some reason not the second!
So, do you like the car?
If so, repair it!
Otherwise, if you're determined to sell it, it will sell easier with a functioning transmission, so I say fix it regardless, even if you fit a 2nd handy...

I can get the transmission fixed, but what's next on the list?
The majority of the car is still strong. I guess I'm wondering if anybody wants it for parts (or if somebody has a thrashed S8 with a good transmission that they'd like to put into this car).
I'd hate to scrap it.

Where are you located? With a bad transmission the car is worth ~$2000. Friend of mine has picked up two like yours for $1800 and $2300 in Minnesota.
