been discussions here about the difference between A and S8's
You will need the ECUtomatch and also check that the pairing of your trans and TCU have been used with ABZ in factory cars or you may have compatability issues.

it's not something the largely-US crowd here is likely to know by personal experience. Perhaps one of our foreign contingent can help. Also, you might ask on the A8 forum at tyresmoke.

I just don't know in what way. Could be a relief for valve clearance, different compression ratio, or a diffreent ring and skirt design for the higher reving S8 (AHC). Or, it could be all three....certainly you should continue to do homework before investing in an expensive experiment.
First thing I'd reccomend is having the heads checked....oil starvation isn't good for cams, lifters and valves either.
You may be able to find a dismanteler in Europe who could ship you a good used short block. Perhaps a lister on the forum jimr mentioned could make inquiries on your behalf.
I wish you well, it is hard to be so far from the mother ship when you have a rare car.
