Default hard shift this morning

I'm not sure what it was but this morning when I took off it had a pretty hard shift into second gear also the car has been leaking some gear oil on the cat can that be the cause?

The gear oil leaking has nothing to do with shifting...hard or otherwise. You need to change the seal on the output shaft flange...very common problem...just gear oil from the center differential

The hard shift is an internal trans problem or maybe the TCM...I would only worry about it if it continues to do so....run a VagCom scan and/or check ATF level.

I agree with Silver. The is one of the most common parts to be replaced for that particular issue.
