2001 with 98k miles, reverse no longer working.
I am looking for advice on how to proceed. I have a 2001 A8L that I have owned since 2005 and took very good care of. Mostly garaged. Spent some money recently to do a complete timing belt service, replaced some bad parking sensors and installed 4 new Michelin tires. Car was ready to last many more years.....so I had thought.
It had developed a oil burning smell. Mechanic said the rear main seal was leaking and dripping onto the cat. Had that replaced. Week or so later the reverse stopped working.
Did some research and it appears to be an F clutch transmission issue as a likely cause.
Trying to decide on used or rebuilt transmission if I plan to keep the car. Used ones start at $1000 - $1800 . Rebuilt I have found for $3,000 and have a 1yr warranty.
Also thinking about trading it in but the value of what I get for the car isnt looking good.
Any advice??
