S8 mpg around town - 13 normal?
My daughter is worried that she's only getting 13mpg in her 30 minute commute in congested northern VA traffic. I did mention that there was a price to pay for fast driving. Anyone else care to comment on what mpg they get in the S8 for city driving?

OK, thanks. This is good info. Sounds like she should at least get 15mpg if she holds back on the gas pedal. This weekend I'll try the following and see if it makes any difference:
- Check tire pressures and keep them on the higher side.
- Clean the spark plugs and check the gap
- run some Chemtool injector/intake cleaner thru the tank
- Check for any exhaust or vacuum leaks
- Fill up with some good Shell gas instead of my local Sheetz stuff.
I'll report back on the results.

Have the primary O2 sensors ever been replaced?
old O2 sensors will give a bad mixture reading and cause high fuel consumption. They won't necessarily throw a code, as the ECU 'thinks' they're working properly!
In heavy traffic I will get between 15-17l/100km (14-15mpg US)

Motor will smooth out more than you thought it would and better mpg's.
With my A8, I generally get about 17-18 city and 24-25 highway. When I changed my front 02 sensors at about 100K miles, gas mileage was instantly restored to this level ... up 1 to 1.5 mpg's overall.
PS: With an S8 as opposed to a A8, you are already screwed when it comes to gas mileage...S8's are geared like dump trucks.
Almost every bit of added acceleration (over the A8) in an S8 comes from the low gearing, NOT the few extra hp in the engine. The few extra HP in the S8 mainly achieves a slightly higher redline and that's about it.
An S8 trans and rear diff placed in an otherwise un-modded A8 will net almost exactly the same 0-60 figures ... it's been done and proven.
