So the odd hose that goes from the steering fluid cooler to the rack. It has that section that is an odd splice crimped piece. The previous owners of the car cut it out and just put a straight coupler. Can this cause noise or issues?

Im battling awful steering whine since I got it. I recently put a rack in it as it was leaking, I decided to replace the pump as well. Pump and rack were Genuine ZF remans. Noise is exactly the same. When the rack leaked out the fluid real fast, and it had no fluid, the pump was silent, noise was gone. So I know its steering noise.

I replaced the suction hose from the reservoir to the pump, I took out the reservoir screen, no change. Screen is clean. What else is there besides this hose thats been modified. Is it worth trying to replace the hose with the original like this.

Has anybody done anything with the restrictor in the line from the cooler to the reservoir? Or maybe if there is a 2nd restrictor that should be in that line from the rack to the cooler also?

Noise is a strange hydraulic sounding growling rattle at idle and a loud whine when accelerating. Turning the wheel makes the growling rattle at idle get louder, and a whine is heard. Raising the rpms just slightly makes the noise stop all together. Its quite frustrating and I have yet to see another Audi do this.

It in fact DOES have a restricter, I dissected a hose at the pick 'n pull.
I would find a used hose and swap in the restricter (patch it inline)

So both hoses have a resitrctor or just the one from the cooler to the reservoir?
