Suspension LEAK...
model:
2004 A8L approx. 160,000Km
A little background before posting error codes.
Apatptive Air greyed out on 'lift' and 'dynamic'.
stiff rough ride--car low low to ground.
VCDS done. 3 faults at Address 34.
could here pump working then shutting off.
obviouslt the "LEAK" is causing all this.
coming from front left wheel is my suspicion as problems of 'list' started there.

well...not sure how accurate is the phrase that A8 D2 has no air suspension...i have just bought one and it does have a rear axle air suspension, at least that's what it says after decoding the VIN number on Audi's official website.
Haven't yet physically checked under the car, but i guess they can't be wrong...
Federung/Daempfung,Niveauregelanlage, selbstregulierende Luftfederung an HA

If you have a non-North America D2 (96-02), you may have the self-leveling option, which involves the rear shocks only...and they are not air springs like D3's...they are height adjusting shocks only, by means of hydraulic (oil) accumulators mounted to the tops of the rear shocks only, to adjust car level for varied rear seat and trunk loads. The hydraulic pressure to the accumulators is fed from a belt driven pump on the engine, just like a power steering pump.
Red arrows for non-NA self-level option. Blue arrow for NA rear shocks on D2's >>>

mine is a 2001 A8 D2 4.2 quattro, and yes it does have the leveling suspension.
Thanks very much for the info, now it makes more sense, as i saw some fluid on the right shock and couldn't really understand where from if it was air.... i guess it is leaking.
Is this system fed by the same reservoir for power steering? that would make sense as i did find in the trunk some ATF oil, so the owner knew about the leak but did't say a thing ...do you have any p/n for the shocks?
Thank you very much for enlightening me and i'd appreciate your help

I'm miles away from my computer with the ETKA catalog, so will post part numbers for you later.

My self levelling rear is also leaking.
What is the cure. Replacing seals etc. Replace the complete shock assembly.
Can standard shocks be fitted.
Thanks, from New Zealand
