I have elsawin and for me it is great but I have nothing to compare it too. I do not get updates because I bought it off ebay but it is sooo worth the money and has helped me do most of the DIY type of jobs that i do. for the price you cannot go wrong even if you just try it.

I too have elsawin and also got it off of ebay. I was sceptical at first add it was three burned cd's labeled 1,2,3. After backing up my computer I followed the directions that came with it and it works great.
As far as the updates go, I don't know what would be updated for the d3 so I'm not worried about that.
Alldata I heard can be good but can be tough to find what you are looking for. I figured fur the price I'd give elsawin a try then alldata.

Updates are of no use to me now. The D3 has been out of production for several years so any updates needed were done and dusted long ago. That's why I went for a bargain offline copy of ElsaWin off eBay as its the official VAG workshop manual and has everything I could possibly need for my 04.

I haven't compared it to other options but Bentley and alldata I doubt contain anything more relevant for the D3 except a much higher price tag.

Now, I was all set to just get the Bently DVD manuals, but then I saw the price for AllDAta access... $45? I'd have to keep the A8 for nearly 15 years to offset the cost of the DVD's! Now I'm considering the AllData pkg.

How is the AllData pkg? Is it as all-encompassing as the DVD? Might just do that to save a few $$.

I'm basically dropping $1k on the A8 this weekend, so shaving a few pennies here and there will ease the pain. Most of that is in the clear front end wrap, then the computer/software and a little bit toward some noisy bits.
I use alldata for three vehicles: 2010 A8L, 2007 Eos and 2005 Expedition. You can google coupons easily and get $29. for first vehicle down to 19.99 and second and third for 14.99 each. 50 bucks for 3 vehicles for the year is pretty good. I have saved a good thousand with VCDS and alldata in the last 6 months alone.

Since I didn't mention it, I bought the CDRom from Bentley 9 1/2 years ago for about $120.00

It has served me well and I still use it today.
