I bought a USB/AMI off eBay and it worked first time on my 2008 S8 which had the original MMI software at the time. I have since updated to current.

Is there a BIN file in the root of the USB? It seems like your system is trying to update the AMI from your USB stick, per this:

You need to figure out what version of software you are currently running. I'm not the expert on this but I think you have to have at least 3360 to run AMI. My car came with 1170 and I updated to 4670 and my usb stick has always worked since I installed AMI.

My I pod works just fine with the ami. ami was already in the car when I bought it. Here is a pic of the version info. I'm not sure what I should be looking at. If an update is needed, I guess I need to throw some money at the dealer?

Did your car come with the USB AMI Interface cable? Depending on the AMI version there could be an issue with the interface cable itself. I ran into that issue while trying to purchase an iPod interface cable from the dealer. I had to have a specific version/part number cable which had been superseded and was unavailable from them. I ended up having to get a 3.5mm jack version and use that instead.

Your software version is , abbreviated, is 4140, and should be good enough. I agree with the previous post about a cable issue. I bought my AMI and cable from a member here and it has worked since I plugged in my USB flash drive.

I am going to try and reformat the stick and just chuck a couple songs on it when I get home. Does it matter what format I wipe the stick in? Exfat or ntfs?
