Default Raspberry Pi 2 and MMI 2G

Thanks to the great little computer - Raspberry Pi 2, we can now have a multimedia player for our MMI 2G. Requirements:
- <a href="http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/322008740417?ul_noapp=true&chn=ps&lpid=82"> Analog TV Tuner 4E0 919 146</a>
- <a href="http://www.dognmonkey.com/audi/add-fbas-to-mmi-head-unit-4e0-035-729.html">Add FBAS on MMI head unit (2004-2006)<a/> or get a 4e0-035-729-A : 2007-2010.
- <a href="https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-2-model-b/">Raspberry Pi 2</a> and a microSD 8GB class 10 or bigger - I used 32GB for $10.
- <a href="http://www.raspberrypi-spy.co.uk/2014/07/raspberry-pi-model-b-3-5mm-audiovideo-jack/">4-pole RCA composite cable for Pi 2</a>
- <a href="http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATI-Remote-Wonder-5000023600-Control-USB-Receiver-Kit-Installation-Guide/301836964667?_trksid=p2141725.c100338.m3726&_trkpa rms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3 D20150313114020%26meid%3D35d9ccdde06143f6a0c097b9f 7e12f0b%26pid%3D100338%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D22%26sd%3D 151976654096">ATI TV remote wonder (old)</a> or <a href="http://www.dognmonkey.com/techs/rii-mini-favi-fe01-bl-wireless-remote.html">remote keyboard and mouse combo</a>
- <a href="http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/221676701942?ul_noapp=true&chn=ps&lpid=82">Wifi Nano dongle</a> less than $10 when Fry's on sale.
- <a href="http://www.dognmonkey.com/audi/watch-atsc-ota-tv-on-mmi-2g.html">Connect the Analog TV Tuner to MMI</a> and plug in the Raspberry Pi 2 and start playing.

- Configuring the Raspberry Pi 2:
1. Only install Raspberry Pi OS and OSMC on the MicroSD card.
2. Raspberry Pi default to HDMI, so we need to force it to composite RCA cables for Analog TV Tuner.

I'm creating a video on how to configure the Raspberry Pi 2 for the sole purpose of this exercise.
The basic result:

Cheers,

Louis

That's pretty cool! Kodi is a pretty good media program. I use it on my theater room projector.

the movies were played without any hitches, the music was amazing. Using the hotspot on my Tmobile I could get so many channels audio and video on it too. It even has PBS kids channel streaming through. So many English FM channels that we can listen to. Now, I'm looking into streaming my phone to the Pi using bluetooth instead of airplay.

This is really the ultimate media player for MMI 2G.

Fantastic mod! Couple of qq:

1 - when adding the FBAS, is there a detailed list of the components needed to buy? Or is it be extracted from the following graphic:

2 - I assume the standard MMI functionality will continue with the mod and this simply works in-line as does the AMI or any other input to the MMI.

Thanks again and can't wait to try this...gotta improve my soldering skills first, since those look very tight

Default It's easier to use this schematic here.

All the components <a href="http://www.dognmonkey.com/audi/add-fbas-to-mmi-head-unit-4e0-035-729.html">are listed here</a>

After I get the bluetooth to work to stream A2DP audio from my phones, I'll sell my AMI. I'm sure it will be done by the weekend.
I re-coded all my movies to lower resolutions 1 full length movie is 800MB, I'll put a small USB hard drive with 500GB for all my movies and mp3, it will be sufficient.

Cheers,

Louis

Default OK bluetooth is working ... it's a perfect system now...

The bluetooth A2DP on Raspberry Pi 2 is still in development phase especially with Kodi OSMC and OpenELEC. After a few trials and errors, all my devices paired and stream audio perfectly to the Raspberry Pi 2.

So summing up what my little project can do?
- Play movies and music on the road with attached hard drives or pen drives.
- Stream music and audio (map direction) from bluetooth devices: iPhones, iPods, iPads, Android phones.
- Airplay: stream audio, videos from IOS 8 or older.
- Stream TV shows, news, music, videos from the internet from all over the world.

How much does it cost?
- Someone snatched my Q7's Analog TV tuner on Ebay last week - it was $90 + $25 shipping (he/she paid $99+$25).
- Raspberry Pi 2 : $40.
- 32GB microSD class 10: $10.
- 300N USB mini wifi : $10.
- Mini Bluetooth 4.0 dongle: $10.
- Old ATI Remote wonder: $10 eBay.
- 4 ports 3.0 USB: $8.

Since the video output is composite, one can split them up to many monitors for the rear seats.

Cheers,
