Great post. Would this be improved with Raspberry Pi 3? Would that Wifi/Bluetooth functionality help?

So summing up what my little project can do?
- Play movies and music on the road with attached hard drives or pen drives.
- Stream music and audio (map direction) from bluetooth devices: iPhones, iPods, iPads, Android phones.
- Airplay: stream audio, videos from IOS 8 or older.
- Stream TV shows, news, music, videos from the internet from all over the world.

How much does it cost?
- Someone snatched my Q7's Analog TV tuner on Ebay last week - it was $90 + $25 shipping (he/she paid $99+$25).
- Raspberry Pi 2 : $40.
- 32GB microSD class 10: $10.
- 300N USB mini wifi : $10.
- Mini Bluetooth 4.0 dongle: $10.
- Old ATI Remote wonder: $10 eBay.
- 4 ports 3.0 USB: $8.

Since the video output is composite, one can split them up to many monitors for the rear seats.

Default The pi3 is out of stock

Haven't gotten one yet. Will post when I get one. It does sound promising, I'm still skeptical about what they put in there.

Cheers,

Louis

What difference does it make. The Rpi-3 with blutooth and wifi is $35 at Microcenter.

Not sure, which is exactly why I asked the question.

Pi 3 has built in wifi and Bluetooth. It saves consumers $20 from extra components. The microcenter here closed down a few years ago. They always have good prices.

$49 with free shipping.

Cheers,

Louis

Very cool, how do you access normal MMI features, like ride height, etc?

Default OK the Raspberry Pi 3 is in and the built-in Wifi and Bluetooth

don't work as well as the external ones.

Default What you have installed is quite amazing...

For touchscreen panel is great but I'm not sure if I want to go through the hassle. My wife didn't even want me to watch movies while driving. 7" screen is too small for the kids in the back to see, the best is to have screens on the head rests, but then, each kid should have their own iPads to watch whatever they like individually.

My goal right now is to maximize the Pi 3 to have FHP (free hand profile) for Cell phones, Google maps navigation instead of Audi primitive navigation.
I can watch TV, youtube and movies while waiting for family shopping. The native resolution seems adequate on an 7" screen.

Cheers,

Louis
