4.0T APR seems well documented to me--web site, lots of posts and info across different boards (here, AZ, etc; more on the S7 or S6 boards typically than D4 A8. (Lack of) documentation on VR Tuned by contrast--the subject of thread--is laughable by comparison.

Thanks for that info on A8 4.0T, especially on the 91! Do you feel the performance on our cars is worth the TD1 concern?
I finally had time yesterday to have the APR tune completed on my 2015 A8 4.0T. As a quick side note, APR is doing a $150 OFF special right now, so that was a nice bonus. My total cost (after tax, shop supplies, etc.) was $1,588.
I am using the 91 octane setting... we don't have 93 available here.
First, the throttle response is much more linear now. Previously, driving the car around town (in Comfort mode) was quite a pain... the first 1/4 of the throttle was dead when pulling away from a stop light, but then the turbo would kick in and it would seem like you had it floored. Most of that is now gone (or greatly improved).
Next, there is not much noticeable difference in performance while just casually driving around town... the car seems slightly more responsive, but not a major change. However, in full dynamic mode, with the RPM above 2,500, there is a substantial difference in power and pull. The "top end" of the RPM range doesn't seem improved at all, but the midrange torque and power is quite amazing.
The final thing is gas mileage... I saw about a 3% improvement on the freeway on the way home (from 30MPG to 31MPG) while driving 82.5MPH.
I had to make a short drive last night (20 miles) on a 4 lane highway, and while driving 70MPH, the car shows 34.1MPG... which is damn impressive for a car this size.
Is it worth the money?? I'm still on the fence... if it was $500, then I would say yes, absolutely... if it were $2,000 then I would say probably not... but I haven't gotten to race any Corvette's yet either. LOL

After a few more days of driving, I can tell you the APR tune is a noticeable difference. Dynamic mode driving is actually pretty amazing. I think part of my hesitation before was that the previous car that I did a tune on was a MB E55 AMG with a supercharger. The $800 tune on that car was a complete change... much more power starting from the line clear up to redline, but that's probably because of the supercharger.
This car pulls extremely hard from the midrange all the way up. Again, was it worth $1,500?? I'm still on the fence... if it was $1,000 or less, then I would say absolutely yes. If it was $2,000 or more, I would say no... I guess that's why they have it priced in the middle... LOL

I had an E55 as well. Tune was noticeable, but the pulley is what made the world of difference. The car had scary power until it would get heat soaked.
Thanks for your reply... how do you intend to deal with your dealer moving forward? That's the only thing that stopped me so far is the TD1 issue... I'm not too concerned with the cost of the tune since tuning other cars I had was far more expensive.

The shop that did the tune has several ex-Audi dealer mechanics. They said they have never had a problem getting problems resolved even with cars that had been tuned.
Also, the shop is telling me that they can completely remove the tune before I take the car in for any warranty work, if I want. They claim there is absolutely no evidence that it was ever tuned.
I am just going to take my chances and not worry about it... if something goes wrong that needs the dealer to check, I will deal with the issue then.
