AC Problem!!
I have a 2004 A8 Quattro and here is my AC story. About a month ago my AC stopped working, when you press the button nothing at all happens. So I take it to a local shop that I deal with and they replaced the blower and resister. When I got my car back after they had it for 3 days, they told me that they couldn't figure out why the air was not blowing through the vents. I could hear the fan blowing but nothing coming through the vents. They advised me to take it to an Audi dealership and I paid them 1100 bucks for the work they did. I went to the dealership, paid 200 bucks for a diagnostics. After a few hours they told me they didn't know what was wrong. I went back to the first place and they told me to replace the climate control unit, 1200 bucks from the dealership. I bought a used one for 300 bucks off of ebay. I installed it and now the control unit lights up for a few seconds then goes off. The dealership told me this was a plug and play device, no need to program it to work with my vehicle. I'm at my wits end and any help or direction with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

First off, you need to put this in the D3 forum, this is the D4 forum, which is entirely a different car than the one you have. That said, I would expect that your problem is the flaps in the climate control system not opening, nothing to do with the control unit. I'd put your original one back in, as the one you put in is likely in component protection mode. Sounds like you've been through the wringer here, lots of clueless people taking advantage of you by throwing parts on a problem they don't know anything about. Spend the $300 on a Rosstech cable for VCDS, if you don't have one, it will tell you any reported errors missed by the standard OBDII readers(which is a lot.) You would be looking for vent door faults, if my suspicion is correct.
Anyway, post this over on the D3 forum, and see who responds. I can't remember if there's anyone in Dallas are who may be amenable to giving you a hand with the code reading or not.

Belongs in D3 forum as stated. But I can also pass along I think the front control unit probably has component protection, so if you put in a used unit dealer will need to code it. It is the rear seat control unit that does not have component protection if you have 4 zone--I changed that one w/ a used part successfully. But ask on the D3 board more specifically about component protection for the front control unit (as opposed to 4 zone rear) if anyone has direct experience w/ it failing.
