Default advice looking at 2005 A8L

First of all, I have owned Audis for many years. Presently, I own two D2s.

Can someone tell me anything specific about the 2005 in terms of what to look for that is different / better or worse than a 2000?

This is a high mileage (222,000 miles) car driven by an older guy (now dead). He really is croaked. I'm meeting his daughter at the estate sale tomorrow. The first owner had it serviced for the 1st 100K by a dealer. The second owner (dead guy) took it to an independent. Tomorrow, I am going to see the indi shop and pick up a print out of service records since 100K. He has everything ever done. While I will verify, a quick conversation with the shop owner indicates complete T-belt service done in the last 5000 miles. Valve cover gaskets, seals, etc were also done then.

Some questions:

Coming from a D2 perspective, how is the transmissions in a D3?
If the fuel pump has never been replaced, is it something to worry about like the D2?
I'm assuming the usual tie rod ends, control arms, etc are still common repairs
Does it have the big, dual calipers brakes like my 2000?

Finally for anyone who has driven both D2 and D3, is there any size issue? I am a big guy (ok, make that fat and inflexible). I'm wondering if the roof line is any lower on the D3.

Any other D3 quirks that I should know as a prospective buyer?

Thanks

Awwww - that's no fun at all. You've deprived us of the opportunity to create masterworks of prose filled with righteous indignation about how this is the Forum for D4s and not everyone here has been a D3 owner :-) .

Best of luck with checking out the car - I had one from around then and thought it was great, and with minimal mechanical issues. Mileage never got up towards the levels you're talking about 'though, so that may be a factor.
