Default MMI Failure Again

Hello,
I own a 2012 A8L,
6 months ago, the MMI screen was replaced, i paid $3000 for it, and yesterday the screen went black again, and dealer is telling me that now is the MMI screen, 2 relays and 1 switch from same unit, that i need to replace, cost around $4700, do anyone had this kind of problem, or this is just my luck, and my car is only 55000 miles. I love the car, but this is making me think about it.

Hope it was really six months ago...

Look at the parts tag: should be at least a 12 mo. warranty--parts warranty ,not the new car 4/50 warranty to be clear. And if dealer did it, labor is on them too IIRC. See that boilerplate fine print on back of invoices we hardly ever read--except when it matters.

So, you lost something in the main drive unit perhaps? Happened to us under warranty on the Q5. Lowly hard drive crash for probably what is essentially an obsolete China sourced $40 drive used in 4 generation old iPods. It was like a $3000 complete Nav main assembly with nothing replaceable at the component level. Like with ABS modules, struts, etc, I expect eventually a rebuild/refurb market will emerge with some enterprising electronics techs--especially with similar units (other than the screen placement) in high volumes in Q5s, S5's, etc.. Unfortunately that can take 5-7 years after the car is out there and off warranty for someone to start doing it.

My sympathies. Maybe call the Audi hotline and get the D4 A8 type support. If you bought new, they might be incrementally more sympathetic. One owner paid expensive repair via a dealer that has also recurred in part (the screen) may get some attention regardless of new vs. used purchase.
