Based on what can be read through the recently seen camo'd spy shots, I think what you see in these pics is very close to the final production version. At a dealer's meeting, Audi has said that it will essentially be a 4-door version of the Prologue concept vehicle. But we'll all know in due time.

I like a lower roof line, looks sleeker, but I'm only 5'10" and my head doesn't come close to touching the headliner in anything.
How old are those pics? I don't think the production car will have quite that low of a roof line. It will probably look more like the test mule, the article is from May.

The artist rendering here, looks exactly like the test mule.
Future Cars: Audi?s All-New A8 Luxo-Saloon Grins Big For 2018
It will probably look more like that, not as low of a roof line, a bit less aggressive, and a bit less edgy. I still like it, but it's not as much of a departure from the D4 as the one in the OP.

To be technical, the camo'd test vehicle in the May article(s) is not a "test mule," but is the actual D5 production version, so the greenhouse silhouette in those pics is the actual window/roof profile. The Earlier Auto Bild renderings are surely a bit "sexed-up," with a somewhat lower roofline, but essentially close to what's under the camouflage wrap in terms of front/rear/side body design (with some VE production run re-design in a few of the finer styling points). The 2nd "Future Cars" rendering pic may be a bit closer to the production version.

Trunk designer guy was relocated to the Siberia reeducation office circa 2011. Hard to believe they will make that mistake again, given it was about the #1 criticism from the get-go with press, reviewers and many owners.

New motor too?
I wasn't aware the 4.0T had performance, thirstiness or other issues, but see this AutoWeek article mentioning supposedly switching to a redesigned Porsche V8: Porsche V8 set for Bentley and Audi models . Also has a passing reference to autonomous.
