Thanks for the instructions. I went out to the car and tried to manually unlock the child safety lock with the key. The key doesn't quite fit in there to turn it so I grabbed my needle nose pliers. The lock seems spring loaded and there isn't much to turn, even with grabbing it with the pliers. I tried to turn it but it won't turn much. I suspect this door has been tampered with in the past.

Just don't force anything, those usually are pretty light effort. Whatever has gone bad could be made worse if you're not careful. Could have been slammed really hard and knocked something loose.

I agree. When I tried to turn it, the **** started to unseat itself and was starting to hide behind the door panel. It was a pain to put back in place. I won't be tampering with it anymore until I take the panel off. First I will see what the dealership says. I bought it at the local Audi dealership so they should fix it for me.

haven't read through all of these but did you check to see if the child lock is engaged using the key itself to turn on the child lock from the door itself? there's a diagram posted earlier in this thread.

Ok, so here is the update...I took it to the dealer and they took it in with no problem! They had it back to me in 2 days. The issue was behind the door panel, the cable that hooks to the inside door handle came loose. The clip that holds the cable in place came undone. They didn't confirm whether the door had been tampered with in the past or the clip just came undone on its own. I suspect the door had been tampered with before. In any event, I'm just happy it is repaired and it wasn't anything serious. Thanks to everyone for your input and assistance.

Could be from a simple cause like slamming door shut like on a '58 Chevy. Door slammers irritate me, but feel a little sorry for they're ignorance too.
