Hesitation under acceleration - misfire or transmission
1994 A6Q 2.8 Auto (ACK).
First time this happened was on a 200 mile cruise - I had slowed from 80-60 then picked up again - felt a really noticeable hesitation as if the engine had responded but the drivetrain was late to engage.
Was going to check out axles, drivetrain etc but on a local journey today felt more like engine misfire.
Idles normally, cruises without hesitation, no fault codes on VAG COM, only issue comes when under load. Happened once on first day but now getting more frequent.
Is there a way to recognise if it's engine or drivetrain related? And if so, is there a standard misfire checklist?
Thanks for any advice...

RESOLVED - very obvious misfire today throughout the range so checked plugs, injectors, air intake etc. Last thing I checked was the HT leads - two of the caps were encrusted with blue deposit at the module end. Cleaned down module, swapped over the two leads from my other A6 and it was very rough. Swapped over all six leads and now runs smooth as before.
Question then - is the blue deposit just decay through wear/age?
