power window circuit breaker- where is it '96 cab
HI-
I have a '96 cabriolet and I've lost power to the driver's window control switches. The 'all windows down' works OK, but the driver's control won't work any window. Ground checks out, but none of the 4 switches are getting battery power. I have swapped out the relay under the driver bolster-no help. (Had a spare relay from a convertible top problem...it wasn't the window control-to lower the windows-for the top operation) (top is still a prob..for another day)After the car was sitting a few days I tried the windows at the driver's switch and was able to lower 2 windows before the switches lost power again. Tha's why I think it is the circuit breakers! I believe the circuit breaker is not resetting like it should. I just can't find the darn circuit breakers! I have torn apart the kick panel on the drivers side (nothing there), have gone through the aux panel (2- 30A & a 60A fuse & 5 relays...but no circuit breakers. I have taken off the door panle and traced the wiring to the loom going to under the dash...can't find the circuit breakers.
Can someone please describe where they are located on this cabriolet so that I can get a part number and replace them. My parts guy (Audi) can't find them in his parts list...needs a part number & the techs don't know where the circuit breakers are!!!
Need help!
Thanks
Rick

As I own a '95 Cab, I've been in the electrical diagram a lot. I can't recall seeing a circuit breaker for any system. Just fuses for circuit protection. If there is a resetable circuit breaker, I'd like to know about it. In your case, I'd start with the fuse, look for a sticky relay, and then test and clean the switch. After that, and considering all the problems associated with the convertible top due to wire breakage at the trunk hinge point, I'd consider the window wiring where it is bundled and flexes at the door hinge. The intermittant nature of your problem suggests that this will be a pain to diagnose, but easy to fix once identified. Remember that in a system like this, low amperage is used as a control for the high amperage electric motor. That's why there are relays to perform this function.
