New Audi A3 - hesitation issue
...just leased a 2015 A3 2.0T 2 weeks ago, coming from a 2003 BMW 330xi which I loved to death (literally)...anyways - happy with the car for the most part, but really annoyed with a slight ~0.5sec hesitation off the line from a full stop - is this related to the adaptive transmission "learning" cycle, and is there a way to fix/improve/reset it? missing the Beemer's 'jump' off the line...
thanks in advance

Many, including myself, have complained about the lag or delay with the 2.0T engine. I guess it's part of the Audi experience. It's pretty bad in my '11 A4, but virtually non-existent in our '15 Q5 fitted with the same powertrain.

...haven't timed it, but it definitely feels faster than the 330xi from 0-60mph - just tough to drive in traffic when the throttle reaction time is unpredictable...I've done some research on this and it seems to be a problem with other newer Audi models - I'm hoping 'spirited' driving and/or resetting the adaptive transmission can improve it - otherwise quite annoying...

Only time I experienced that type of behavior is when my old '96 Elantra timing belt went out.
Could this be symptoms of a defective turbo? I thought I read stories like this on those defective turbos in some of the early built 2015 A3s.

I think what your talking about is actually a characteristic of the DSG twin clutch transmission, it doesn't fully engage the transmission when starting from a start. The Bmw uses a traditional 8speed slushbox transmission, so it's not waiting to connect the clutch plates. The transmission will adapt to your driving style some (and you'll also get used to it) I've noticed manually shifting the transmission helps it learn your preferred shifting styles as well.

FWIW, I had the same thought recently (700miles on mine in 3 weeks). I was switching between D/S/M alot and that seems to confuse things. When I got to the 500 or so mile mark and drove it normally, it seems the hesitation mostly goes away (less the DSG thing mentioned above).
Maybe this video would help?

So I have never driven an Audi before but started to look at them and went to the dealer and test drove an A3.
One thing I think I discovered is Audi provides their dealers with a demo model for test drives. I'm use to driving any vehicle on the lot.
So the demo vehicle had several thousand miles on it and I instantly noticed the slight hesitation when stepping on the gas from a stop.
This has been a concern of mine but I will test drive one more thoroughly as I get closer to my purchase decision.
If the electronics will correct this to your driving habits? I don't know but really doubt it.
