8V S3 Oil/filter Recommendations?
Hey folks;
For anyone that changes their own oil and filter - which products do you use and recommend?
I did find the PDF that lists the approved 504-spec choices, here: http://www.audiusa.com/content/dam/a...e-Bulletin.pdf
Among this list, do y'all have a favorite?
Thanks!

Wicked, I'll assume you are in the USA. Do you intend to run a 504.00 spec oil or 502.00?
I have a slight preference for the Mahle filters and buy them when possible.
Welcome aboard!

I'm in Seattle, yes. I didn't realize 502 was an option, some light searching told me 504 was the correct spec for an S3. However, I'm okay with bending the rules if there's a compelling reason to go with 502 instead.

I think it depends on your driving style. If you like racing and drive hard you should change oil more often. Here is my preference (in no particular order):
1. Motul 5W40, Fully (100%) synthetic oil and OE oil filter
2. Liqui Moly 5W-40, Fully (100%) synthetic oil and OE oil filter
3. PurÖl Elite Series 10w40 and OE oil filter.
Now let me say a little more about PurOl. it is indeed a special kind of motor oil in a good way. I think PurOl is the best engine oil for S3 that you can currently buy on an open market if you are willing to pay $22 per quart. I did use it once on my A6 with 3.0 engine and I felt the difference right away. For most oil I dont normally "feel" the difference before and after oil change but felt after this one. I believe all these three type of engine oil adhere to VW/Audi standards, should not be any problem here.
Since I already have 6 quarts of Motul 5W40 I will use it for my next service but after that I will only use PurOl.

For the USA, Audi still calls out 502.00. It's more robust than the 504.00 oils.
The most popular 502.00 oil is going to be the Mobil 1 0W40 (W*mart, $25/5qts) oil. There are a few other common 502.00 oils that you can find at local stores.
I would double-check your Owner's Manual and verify it says 502.00. I don't think the 504/507 oil is recommended for anything but the diesels sold here in the USA. You'll have no issues/concerns with warranty if you follow their recommendation.

I've got 2 cases of Mobil One 5W-30 in my garage. Would like to use that oil if possible but don't want to compromise my engine! Any opinions whether that would be a problem?
