AMI/iPhone 6s Popping and Crackling in Audio, Open Mic Circuit Fault
So, this is interesting...
I have recently been hearing popping and crackling on my Nav+B&O system. During a road trip today to test out some VCDS changes (dynamic steering is like a whole new car!!!), I decided to troubleshoot this a bit.
Here is what I found:
-Only seems to be happening using AMI cabled connection to iPhone; other sources ruled out
-Didn't occur when connecting to iPhone via Bluetooth; iPhone ruled out
-Seemed to be happening only with sunroof and/or windows open; this one had me puzzled!
-Was also particularly windy today
When I was about 10 minutes from home on my way back, I remembered seeing a fault last night in VCDS about a microphone. I decided to blow a little bit into the microphone near the map lights, and what do you know? Tons of static coming through the speakers!
Here is the fault from VCDS:
1564 - Microphone 1
B129B 13 [008] - Open Circuit
Intermittent - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 4
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 237
Mileage: 24767 km
Date: 2016.04.23
Time: 11:14:45
I can only assume this is the problem. Has anyone experienced this? This problem has been going on for a bit, and haven't connected the VCDS to this A3 until last night.
Was starting to go crazy trying to figure out why windows/sunroof open could be causing this!
Thanks!

So, the dealership service department was able to duplicate this issue with both another iPhone, in addition to testing in several new vehicles with nav-MMI.
I'm curious if anyone else can duplicate this issue: connect iPhone (6s in this case) to MMI via AMI cable, select a song to play in iTunes, while music is playing, blow into the vehicle's microphone, located near the map/dome lights/sunroof controls. Do you hear static through the speakers?
