Default Audi RS-3 sedan coming to U.S.

NEW YORK -- Audi of America CEO Scott Keogh said the high-performance RS 3 compact car and Q8 SUV will be sold in the U.S., but the Q1 small crossover may be a bridge too far.

Keogh signaled that an RS 3 sedan would be the best fit for the U.S., rather than the hatchback version. In Europe, the RS 3 hatchback gets 367 hp from a five-cylinder engine for a 0 to 60 mph time of less than 5 seconds. ...

Oh darn... why couldn't this be news of an RS3 "Sportback" coming to the states. I would be happy with S3 Sportback too.

Wonder if they'll put Homelink in it standard or if it will have memory seats for 60k+ when reasonably optioned. Haha.

Smart man. The Sportback S3/RS3 look so mundane IMO. And the hatchback design just saps out whatever premium look that the exterior has. Looks like a luxury Golf. But the RS3 sedan wont look any different than the S3 sedan from what I can see.

I think just the opposite. A sedan looks like just about every other car on the road, and I will likely never drive one again. I guess I lean towards "European" thinking in this regard.

In addition, I find it a real plus to be able to drive a sporty car that also has great utility.

And what's wrong with a Golf ? I sure wouldn't mind having a GTI or Golf R as a second "just for fun" car.

No car enthusiast is going to mistake an S3 with an RS3 unless it's debadged and intentionally made to look like the other (front and rear bumpers/grill/custom exhaust AND debadged or intentionally misbadged.. Plus a 5 cylinder doesn't sound the same as a 4 cyl engine...

I mean I've never driven a mustang (except once as a convertible rental), but I can tell the difference between a base model, a GT, and a Cobra (along with maybe if it's a shelby or roush.)

That giant front air splitter, and the giant air vents in the front, along with the oval exhaust in the back... and a completely different engine... make the RS3 a bigger difference from the S3 than the A3 s-line prestige is different from the S3... and plenty of people can tell the difference between those 2 cars.

Meh

'In Europe, the RS 3 hatchback gets 367 hp from a five-cylinder engine for a 0 to 60 mph time of less than 5 seconds.'

Doesn't seem worth a 20% (ish) premium.

haha Homelink, Hold-Assist, Park Assist, and Auto-Off have a better chance of getting featured than that, since after all they exist but get taken out of the A3 to the West.
