My primary personal goal is to figure out the 7" Nav actual resolution. It can't be only 720x480 as that doesn't fill the screen properly.

I tried 800x480 which is the exact res 16:9 as my old 7" Blackberry Playbook and it would not play any video at that resolution.
The only vid that I was able to play on my S3's MMI screen was and old 400X240 vid. The unit doesn't play 720p or 1080i/p. Which is a glaring omission. They're always something. My last car didn't have RDS for radio stations, and that was the $2000 option stereo, the regular radio had RDS. It was a 2008 vehicle and I can remember having RDS in my 2001 vehicle.

To input video via MMI AMI composite cable, the resolution input is 480i (NTSC) or 576i (PAL). Maximum resolution should be 720x480 interlaced @ 59.94 Hertz (NTSC) or 720x576 interlaced @ 50 Hertz (PAL).

I been able to get videos I ripped off Youtube and convert them to 720x480 resolution and it would playback, but it only look good on the older 4:3 videos. The 16:9 videos don't utilize the widescreen 7" display as it should instead I end up with black border all around 16:9 videos.
So I figured it probably should be capable of doing a true widescreen res. 800x480, but it doesn't appear that way.

I need to try a 16:9 DVD on it. I realize I've only tried 90s sitcom DVD on it so far and that was of course 4:3 content.

I don't recall seeing any option like that. I know when I initially played a DVD it displayed a 4:3 sitcom accurately. When typically most current DVD players today would display any 4:3 content in an anamorphic view stretching it out so it would fill a widescreen display and not have black bars on the side. That didn't happen with the MMI Nav screen, it showed the black bars, which I'm okay with since it doesn't distort the 4:3 content. But when I put actual 16:9 video on, I expect to fill the entire 7" screen.

While in media if you go to "settings" and then "video picture settings", you should see scaling options. " Zoom" "4:3" ,"16.9", "Auto", Etc..

You'll need to find out the screen resolution first before you can guess the video resolution, but I have NO idea how to find that info, maybe if we can kind out who manufactured the LCD screen.
