Can a 2013 A3 2.0t engine be swapped into a 2006 A3 with standard trans?
Hi everyone,
I appreciate any and all responses on this thread. So recently my timing belt broke on my 2006 A3 with standard trans and 2.0t. I've done some research and found that the trans in the 2012-13 is the same, however, the clutches appear to be different.
1) If I were to find a complete 2012-2013 A3 2.0t complete engine including the ecu, would it bolt right up to my existing 2006 transmission?
2) Also, I've noticed some newer Audi engines mount longitudinally, does the 2012-13 A3 mount longitudinally or laterally?
3) I've seen more 2012-13 Passat 2.0t engines for sale, it seems to be the same engine aside from most passats being automatic. Would one of these motors bolt up to the 2006 a3 standard trans if I got an ecu from a 2012-13 standard a3?
The easier thing would be to just buy an engine from a 06-08 a3, but they all have 90k+ miles. The newer engine can be found with as low as 10k miles on them. I appreciate your help!

Nope....in 2010 they changed the position of the motor mounts 12 mm forward to move the weight back slightly. It was part of the refresh they did..If your a 06...up to 09 should be good.

I knew it was too good to be true. Ill probably just hold out until I can find a lower mileage motor from the year range (06-09). Thanks for your help!
