I went from a 2010 A5 to a 2013 S5 and if I never had the S5, I would have stated that the A5 was the best car I have owned. I still maintain that the A5 is fantastic but the extra power and the exterior and interior details of the S5 intoxicate me. The only negative thing I could say about the A5 was that I really needed to downshift a lot if I wanted that sudden burst of power (both cars are manuals) and 6th gear was truly only for cruising on the highway. With the S5, I can point and shoot without downshifting if I need the sudden acceleration.

My advice is if you can comfortably afford the S5 go for it but if you cannot, the A5 is a wonderful choice as well

I'm just saying, I own European cars that are sometimes a PITA to pay for and live with, but I do it anyway because I love the feeling I get driving them. If I found myself in [what I perceive to be] a toned-down version of a higher performance car, dialed-in towards being an appliance and not a passion, I would stress the monthly payment that much more.

Well said, although I haven't found a Korean counterpart that I could drive regularly without a bag over my head

I'm not going to be a hypocrite and say I would buy one, but I think the Kia Optima is a sharp-looking car that has aged well over the years.

I dunno, maybe I've just had bad luck, but the two I've driven were noisy, had no power, the brakes sucked and the fuel economy was dismal. As far as looks go - looks like a Taurus and a Jetta had a love child that's missing a chromosome - typical overdesigned & underengineered Asian bull****.
