Default BBS CM close out at Tire Rack...

…Hi folks. I just purchased a set of five 19x9.5 BBS CM's with 265/35 rubber for my RS5. With our canyon running, I am only getting 8-10 thousand mile per set of tires (with rotation). In addition, the 275/30-series tires are proving rather fragile and expensive.

The reason I am posting this is that the Tire Rack is blowing these CM's out at $199/wheel (normally $600+). I got the fifth to use as a spare and a backup if I destroy a wheel.

These are NOT forged but use the flow fit technology which is an enhanced gravity casting system and I have always and good luck with BBS wheels. I work with Tucker and he is great.

They arrive wednesday and I leave for a four day canyon tour after that … I will be heat cycling through the night to get ready :-)

I know it seems goofy, but a I may put Conti DWS high performance all-seasons on the 20 inch OEM wheels as they have a UTQG of 560 and are more able to handle the rocks in the road. I would use them in the winter with the colder seasonal temperatures in the mountains.

Happy Motoring
Eric

Default Package arrived today...

… Installed the wheels and tires. Went out for three heat cycles. These wheels are 9.5" wide as the OEM's are 9.0". These actually fill the wheel well a bit better, so no spacers added. Its sitting a bit high as the car just came down off the jack and has not settled. Sorry the pictures are blah. I will post more vibrant images from the canyons this weekend… off on a four-day jaunt through The Angeles Crest, Big and Little Tujunga Canyons, Bouquet, Los Padres, Sespes, McItrick to Morro Bay, Mericopa Hwy,Lockwood Valley, etc. Erin will be along in the S4… sublime.

And… I finally have a full size spare - peace of mind

Happy motoring indeed...

Eric

Not a fan of the those wheels, but do report back on how the new setup feels in the canyons. Did you put on the Conti DWS? It has a much softer sidewall, which wont't be so good for the canyons.

What are you planning to do with your stock wheels? I slightly curbed my right rear wheel today and my front right has had cosmetic damage from a nail I got a while back, so I'm thinking of having them repaired and refinished. Kinda feel like a change and I always liked the matte black with the red accent finish like yours. Probably cheaper to just have them powder coated in matte black/red, but in case your thinking of selling yours, how much do you want for them? Are they still in good condition?

This certainly looks hot!

Default Update - images from the canyons...

Hi folks,

I have made the first few runs through the canyons. Last night, I did a fifty mile run with a cool down in the middle. The tires were essentially new and they felt very soft and imprecise. I was convinced that I had made a horrible mistake. Today, just finished a 130 mile loop and they have tightened up considerably and feel much better. The 20's are sure beautiful, but I can save nearly $150/tire by going to a 19" fitment. I am going through 2-3 sets of tires/year, so it is a considerable savings over the remaining three years of the lease. Warming up to the design… I think it looks better in person as the wheels look more substantial in-person and less spindly. We shall see...

I may just sell the 20"… let's chat via PM

Happy motoring - 2.5 more days of fun :-)

Eric

Yeah, you gonna have to give them about 500 miles for the release lubricant to wear off. They won't grip properly for a while. I'll PM you about the wheels.
