Default Car Cover for S5

I am finally tired of the dust collecting on my baby in the garage and am thinking about purchasing a car cover. Anyone have any recommendations? I would use the cover primarily as a dust cover (and extra kid protector) in the garage, but would also want to take it with me when I take the car and leave it outside at places like the beach. I'm looking at the following cover. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Why not just get the Audi cover? "Stormshield" is an excellent material.

Thanks. I also considered the Audi cover but don't know much about "Stormshield" covers. It would be great to hear from anyone that has one of these covers. Again, my main purpose is to keep the car from getting a lot of dust on it in my garage (I drive the car only about once a week) and to give me a little extra protection from the kids. So, I need mainly a good dust cover and it doesn't have to be great for sitting in the elements for a long period of time. Although I will use it outside from time-to-time, so I can't purchase only an indoor cover. My Ventureshield guy told me that Covercraft covers are the best (see http://www.covercraft.com/outdoor_covers.htm and go to the fabrics guide). The "Ultra'tect" is one of the better Covercraft covers, so that's why I'm leaning that way.

Here's the only thing I could find discussing the Stormshield cover: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...car-cover.html

The cover site I am considering had much more information about each cover (see http://www.the-cover-store.com/CarCo...ture=CABRIOLET Convertible 2 Mirror Pocket

I'm in a similar situation - I'll be keeping my new A5 garaged this winter, and am looking into cover options. I like the Dustop product on the site you mentioned - seems perfect for indoors.

Keep us posted on what you end up getting!

Cheers, Dave

I've used car and motorcycle covers for about twenty years. I personally want a completely anonymous cover that has no automotive logos on it, and no clear plastic to expose the license plate. All my covers have been made for the specific vehicle I use them with. They all have had cables and padlocks securing them to the vehicle, and to deter theft or vandalism (never had anyone tamper with any vehicle I've had covered this way). A major element in my choice of the tops' design and fabric selection has been the quality of the covers' inner fabric, that touches the vehicles' finish. I always used a dust wiper to clean my vehicles before covering them, but the covers all eventually get dusty inside, and need periodic cleaning. A dusty, scratchy cover will harm a vehicle's finish just like sandpaper.

Thanks for the additional information. However, the only information I could find from an owner of a "Stormshield" cover reported the following:

"When it needed replacement, I bought the Stormshield. It is different material, much like a thin windbreaker, but more water-repellant. It does not have a peach fuzz lining--I think that's the Weatherguard, but is soft enough not to scratch if there is no dirt on the car." (emphasis mine)(see http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...car-cover.html).

Again, I can't find anything about whether the Stormshield makes a great dust cover. The cover posted by Jake-AudiUSA Parts (thanks Jake) comes with a clear license plate cover (as does the Audi Stormshield), which I understand is required by some municipalities if you want to cover the car on a public street (like I might want to do when I go to the beach). Also, the comment about not wanting the logo on the hood makes sense depending on where the car is parked.

If anyone has any additional covers they can recommend by brand name with purchase location, that would be great.

Sorry about that. I was quoting the material manufacturer's site.

So, I called a buddy who just got the Audi cover a few months ago for his S5. You are correct that it does not have a lining. He sees this as a good thing as it won't convey any dust that might be under the cover. It's a very substantial cover and rated well against California Car Cover's all-weather Noah, et al.
