Default Whirring sound when starting '12 A5 Cab

I've had my 2012 A5 Cab for a few months and have noticed a slight whirring sound coming from the engine when I start it after having left it overnight. I hear it right when I start the engine and it seems to continue while I back out of the garage. As I drive forward it seems to disappear. Also, when the engine is warmed up I don't seem to hear it when starting the engine.

Any idea what that may be? Thanks for your advice!

Default Pop the hood and have someone watch the cooling fan(s).

Could be an AC fan as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I started the car with and without the A/C and while I heard the A/C fan, that wasn't the noise.

I now no longer hear the original whirring noise either. Oh well. If it happens again I'll record the sound...

p.s. I think I have bigger issues. I took a look at my oil level for the first time and it's about 4/5th empty. It was inspected and certified CPO less than 3 months ago, and I've driven less than 3,000 miles since it was purchased. It's a MY 2012 (but purchased by the original owner in Sept 2011), and I thought the MY 2012 cars addressed the dreaded oil consumption issue. I guess I'll wait until the oil light goes on and then take it in for an oil consumption test.

My understanding is that 3,000 miles per quart is normal for the A5. The problem years used about a quart every 1,000 miles or even less. Anyone agree?

Correct, a quart per 3,000 miles isn't bad. In my post I said that the level was 4/5ths empty. The car holds just under 5 quarts, so that would mean 4 quarts in 3,000 miles.

Get the car into the dealer and bring this to their attention. They will have to do multiple steps, but as I am sure you are aware, many oil consumption issues are common with this engine. Audi does take care of this issue, but it seems the customer has to push hard for a resolution.
