Blue tooth for music??
Hi everyone, easy question. Looking at 2014/15 S5. On test drive sales guy pointed out the phone/iPod cables in glove box. I gave a weird look and asked why would I need those can't I stream it through the blue tooth. He said yes but could connect it.
Please tell me I don't need a cable to play music as I did in my 2009 Honda.
Thanks

You don't need it.
As a matter of fact, you don't need music to drive if the car is entertaining.
Besides, everyone else is texting or yapping on the phone anyway so you need to have situational awareness.

Blue Tooth yields really poor audio...
… you definitely will need use a hard link if you wish to enjoy the music in your car. The blue tooth link in our various S-cars has been equal to mediocre AM radio. Same reason I dropped Sirius XM after it was no longer in the free trial mode. The sound quality is just beyond poor… useful for the spoken word only.
I do agree that music can be distracting, so I listen only at certain times. As I age, I have to give much more of my concentration to driving to enhance my situational Awareness (actually a military term from at least the 1950's when my dad would use it). Now it has been co-opted by the Valentine One Radar Detector Company and it is a good descriptor.
Happy New Year

I keep an iPod in the glove box on the AMI cable and it sounds best but streaming Pandora via Bluetooth off my iPhone is pretty good to my ears. Both are better than Sirius.

Now I'm embarrased. I had a problem loading from my iTunes. Got my techie daughter to do it and she never did show me what she did ( her way of demonstrating she's more knowledgable than dad)

No embarrassment needed...
Here is what I found for what Audi MMI wants:
Audio codec: MP3
Sample rate: 48000Hz
Bit rate: 320 Kbps
Apple iTunes does not download automatically in that format. I made a card a few cars back and I had to reformat each song… yikes. So now, my "retired" iPods serve as song mules in each of three cars. I still use an iPod for music when I travel by plane so I can completely shut off my phone and not have to open up my laptop.

So I can run all my purchased music on my iPhone through blue tooth. Thanks
Now to find the car! Local dealer looking for me and I'm constantly searching Toronto area dealers. 2014-2015 S5 Technic package, ideally Daytona grey but will consider anything that's in great condition.
I'll post when I find it.
