Hello,

I had my oil changed a few days ago. I did not do it at the Audi dealership this time. I think they are too expensive for just an oil change and, in addition, they wanted me to do the 45K service but I just have 31K miles and have already done the 35k service.

Anyhow, I called the local dealer (Audi Pacific in Torrance, CA) to see if they could reset the service reminder, which beeps at me every time I start and stop the car. To my surprise, they refused to do it without my paying for the 45k service - claiming that Audi service every 12 months is "required" by owners, and not "recommended" to owners. $250 is what they wanted. I submitted a trouble ticket to Audi of America and they basically told me the same thing.

Are you guys aware of a way to reset the service reminder without the special tool that only Audi seems to have? I don't appreciate being blackmailed, and the noise is intrusive.

Check the owners manual for your vehicle. The newer models allow you to reset the service minder through the MMI.

The manuals are getting thicker or thinner when they put them on the MMI as well.

Walter's Audi in Riverside will reset service reminder for $35. I just called them to get price a couple days ago. Last time they did not charge me since I told them that I bought the car from them.
