Default Tire Pressure

The recommended pressures on my door jam are 41 front, and 38 rear. This seems a bit high. It was actually 45 front and 41 rear when I checked tonight, but I think it's just because it was overinflated for shipping.

What do you guys recommend?

Read the manual for correct pressure levels. The pressure on the door jam is the maximum pressure for full load conditions. If you normally drive in the car alone or with only one other person, the proper pressure will be less than the value on the door jam.

sorry ??
on the sticker in the door, you have 2 different tire-pressures:
2 persons with some luggage
4 persons with full luggage.

Fred, he's correct. About 6 or 7 years ago the U.S. Congress decided that the laws of physics in the United States are different compared to elsewhere in the world. Our door jamb stickers now show ONLY MAX LOAD conditions. Fortunately, the Owner's Manual still shows normal conditions for normal people. Many auto mfrs no longer show the traditional pressures and simply defer people to the label on the car

Here's the label from our '06 A6 Avant, my '11 A4 is essentially identical (showing MAX LOAD ONLY):

Here's the Owner's Manual for our '06 car showing normal and MAX LOAD conditions for 16", 17" and 18" wheels

Thanks everyone. I always thought the door jam was the one to go by. And in the US it only gives one set of numbers.

I will RTFM
