you have a lot of colour choice - you can customize too, maybe 30 colours and tones

I haven't taken any pictures, nor have I played with it much. But it is highly configurable. Assuming you are talking about the highest spec (there are 3 levels of interior lighting in global production) Contour system:

• Choice of colours
• Theme options (at least on the S5)
• Ability to adjust individual zone light levels
• Theme/colour can change depending on Drive Select mode used (how amusing!!)
• Preferences stored on individual key memory

Cool! Are you referring to US cars? I didn't see an option in the BYO so it must be standard.

Is it pretty bright at night? I'm weird and love being really distracted by lights at night. I drove a new 540i and it had bright ambient lights.

In the US, you have standard ambient LED interior lighting. If you want the interior lighting with color adjustability, as well as door pocket lighting, then you have to order a Prestige.
