'01 Allroad rim?
The outer part of my wife's Allroad rims show a little road rash. Can I remove then to repainting them? The manual says not to remove them.

Never never never separate the AR two piece wheel.
Lots of You videos on repairing road rash. touch up paint - in spry cans, are easy to get.
there are even mobile services for less than a $100 will come to your home, and repair the rash.

The whole wheel, and they will disassemble it so that the bolts don't get painted. The finish you want is "hyper-silver", otherwise you will get a mat-silver finish which will not match your other wheels.
You'll keep saying to yourself why doesn't that wheel look right, until you figure it out.
Good luck.

I stand corrected Mike. I had been told so many times years ago not to touch the bolts on ar wheels - that they are torqued all at once or something like that. Perhaps the wheel restorers have the proper equipment
