It doesn't appear that there's an accessory position on the ignition switch on the Allroad so the radio/CD player turns off when the engine is switched off. Is the only option to switch the power source on the stereo to live wire?

The radio in my '13 TT will run regardless of the key (just turn it on). Your Allroad my be different since the TT's MMI is fairly old tech.

It is already wired that way, just press the power button to turn it on regardless of whether the key is in the ignition or not. Note that when you turn if off without the key, next time you start the car it will stay off until you turn it on again.
