Default Audi allroad gearbox issue?

Hi all this is my first post I'm just looking for some help. Basically I have a 2005 audi a6 allroad 2.5tdi
It's having some strange issues with the gearbox so far I have changed the oil and that made no difference I'm thinking it's an ecu issue but hopefully someone will advise.

The car changes up and down gears at the wrong times as in you can go from park to D or manual and it will be in any gear it chooses.

You can be driving along as a constant speed an it will just change to 5th you put your foot down it won't change back down some times putting your foot down it dosent even react at all as in it seems like your tip toeing.

You could be driving along in D then the dash will change as if it's in manual mode same with S.

Various faults showing in the ecu different everytime

2nd 3rd 4th or 5th gear ratio incorrect everytime it jumps into limp mode it's a different gear at fault. You also get excessive slipping but it only slips in limp mode.

Some days I can drive fine for 10 miles other times its every minute or two it jump into limp mode. It seems like the car dosent know the engine load.

Anyway any help really appreciated Adam

Do you have VAG COM?

If you have VAG COM, did you try the kick down adaptation?

What trans specific codes are you getting?

Using a snap on scanner atm but when I get back to work I'll be using vagcom. Snap on codes are different everytime there's always 2 codes. One code is always excessive clutch slippage 17195 p0811. The other code is always different which is why I think it's an ecu issue so far I've had

Transmission range sensor f125 implausible signal 17090 p0706

Gear ratio incorrect each time it's a different gear

When I get vagcom I will post real codes as I know these generic scanners are pants

If I drive the car under 50mph it's completely fine most of the time. Thanks for your reply

Check out this thread:

HELP! transmission is in limp mode

I found most of the Google results coming back to a bad valve body.

Is the passenger floor wet?

Thanks again for your reply 😊 I haven't checked the passenger floor but the drivers side floor is dry mines a RHD I have checked the tcm to see if it was damp but all is dry. Also just to mention I have 2 fault codes in the abs one for brake switch implausible signal but I have replaced this I will have to replace again to see if that cures it and the other one is brake pressure sensor faulty I think this is the abs pump itself. Still waiting to get back to work so I can use vagcom. Adam

How many miles are on the tranny?

I think it would be worth checking the connections at the TCU. I believe your TCU box has a better seal, but I would check for corrosion anyway.

If that checks out, it sounds like an internal issue. Torque convertor, clutches, valve body, solenoid, etc.

Thanks for the reply as far as I know it's the origional box 190k. I have checked the tcu in the drivers footwell seems ok should I open it up and check inside? Also where's the main connection from the tcu to gearbox is it near the drive shaft?

Check the actual connection at the TCU, inside the box. Hopefully, that's your issue. Otherwise, with 190k on the box, it could get pricey.
