Default Cargo Cover Broken

My cargo cover (not the pet retaining net) suddenly won't retract and has no tension on it. Did the spring break and if so how can it be fixed? Ideas??

Here's a thread I did a while ago on one I repaired. In truth this repair didn't hold as long as I had hoped so I have to take it apart again and try a more permanent solution. At least this shows the inner workings if you decide to repair it yourself.

The spring is fine, the plastic end cap that holds the spring has broken.

Default Fixed at last !!!!

I finally found time to fix my broken cargo cover. No big surprise that the main issue was the end cap (drivers side left ..the one that isn't available from Audi) but I was surprised by the number of cracks in both end caps.
I used a high PSI expoxy to fix all of the cracks but wasn't able to permanently anchor the tension rod so it wouldn't spin. I ended up drilling a hole thru the rod where the plastic pieces are towards the end of the rod and then used a piece of heavy duty coat hanger. I inserted this thru the hole and anchored it around the black plastic piece that's screwed into the inside of the end cap. Once that was done I was able to wind up the spring 15-20 turns and screwed the end cap back in place. So far the repair is holding and the cover retracts and has tension. Thanks for the great step by step repair guide.
Hard to believe that a new cover is between $750-1000. Must be made of diamond encrusted unobtainium.
