One more hitch question
I wasn't sure the best way to post this and have it seen. Sorry for yet another hitch question, but I think this one is a little different.
I had a curt hitch installed. Mainly for a rear bike carrier on my 2004 AR 2.7. It was wired with a 4 pin connector. It is the 1 1/4" type of hitch. https://www.curtmfg.com/part/11166
It's rated to 2,000lbs towing and 200lb tongue weight.
I have a camp trailer that is 1,300lbs dry and 160 tongue. This, on paper all sounds good.
My question is, has anyone here towed a similar trailer? For reference, Alpine : Chalet RV Mine is a 2001 model but basically same specs.
I am interested in the following from real-world users:
1) Is this killing your car towing? Is it bad for the turbos, etc.?
2) My trailer does not have brakes. Is this a deal breaker?
3) To anyones best guess, and not holding you liable! Are these ratings typically conservative? meaning I'd probably be well within the limits as it is.
I guess what I'm really after is hearing from folks who actually tow.
thanks

The actual tow rating of the allroad is 3300lb US or 5000lb Euro. From what I've read there is no real difference between the Euro and US allroad that would affect the tow rating so I go with the Euro rating.
If I were you I wouldn't worry too much about the car as I would about the hitch. You are getting pretty close to the max weight but should be fine. If you had the OEM or Justin's hitch you would have no problems towing your trailer because they were specifically designed for the allroad.
To answer your real question though, you are not hurting your car. There would be no need for trailer brakes on a trailer that light. I've towed close to 1,000 lb with mine on a little utility trailer with no problems at all.

Thank you for the feedback. I already have the curt hitch installed. I needed it asap for traveling needs with my bikes. So it's what I am going to use. I just need to be careful not to add more than 700lbs to the trailer to hit the max payload and be aware of keeping weight off the tongue. I'll take it for a spin in a few weeks when i'm back to the trailer and see how she do!

The curt trailer hitch is mounted to sheet metal. How much it can actually tow without damaging the spare tire well is a mystery. I use my curt hitch to carry bikes and occasionally pull a small uhaul trailer. I would not trust it with much more. If I had greater towing requirements, I would upgrade to the frame hitch.

I would not even try to tow 2,000 lbs with a hitch mounted only to brackets through sheet metal around the spare wheel well. The metal can tear away. But you must already know that from prior posts.
The 2.7 tip has plenty of pulling power (engine and transmission), and braking for under 2,000lbs.
Over that, the brakes would be my next concern. I've pulled over 3Klbs UHaul trailers loaded up to capacity and was very thankful for the trailer's built-in hydraulic brakes when I had to stop quickly in traffic.
I have the OEM hitch that mounts into the frame rails behind the bumper.
