Default Recycled hitch

Hi y'all

If you have followed my theards it had all revolved around a hitch

Now I do have some skills but couldn't figure out a design that I felt worked - and truthful I felt comfortable building

Now this is a hitch

I have access to a truck scrape yard - saw an old ford truck with a nice looking hitch

Some milling, fab, and some creative monster engineering we have this

Now this is badasss - not for the faint of heart

Some reason I couldn't upload two pictures - Internet is not my strong point

Here is it pre-painted on my rig

Love to hear some feedback

Thanks everyone for the help

I do have a few questions but I'll get to it later

Neat! How are you going to fit the bumper back on over that?

Are you going to mount it like this one through the bumper?

I will need to cut some of the corners of the bumper cover and I will not be mounting that aluminum cover -

What's the reasoning behind mounting the original aluminum cover?

Thanks for the replys. I am working out of town for the next 2 months so the project is on hold.

I have considered building a completely new bumper cover from this hitch. Be badass. Haven't figured out the anagles around the sides yet - be a technically difficult project but if done well could look awesome

That aluminum piece is part of the crash structure because it will collapse (absorb some of the energy) in the event of an impact.

Are you going to go with something like what the offroad guys do and build a plate steel bumper? Maybe include a spare wheel mount or something?

I'd rather have the OEM bumper system and one of Justin's hidden hitches:

In fact, we have one of these on each of our C5 Allroads.

Yeah, I have one of Justin's hitches and it's great. It's invisible when I'm not using it and works great when I am using it. Perfect.

The aluminum part is not a cover, it is the bumper. The plastic bumper you remove to install the hitch is the cover. Without the aluminum part, the plastic cover won't do anything other than break in the event of a rear impact. The hitch replaces the bumper shock absorbers though, so more impact will be transmitted into the rest of the car. That said, with my hitch installed someone rear ended me at about 5-10mph when I was stopped and the only damage to my car was some scuffed paint.

To each their own, but that sounds way more difficult than just making the hitch fit under the existing bumper cover.

Will be extremely difficult to follow the original bumper to fit a new metal one vs using the old plastic cover.

See what I come up with when I return home -

Thanks
