Sporadic And Annoying "Metallic" Sounding Rattle Under Car
I have had an annoying but sporadic "metallic" rattling (not vibration) sound that periodically makes itself known when driving at low speeds on rough/uneven roads. First I've experienced this in 80,000+ miles. Sounds like its coming from somewhere in the rear underside of the car, kinda like a license plate frame if it were loose, but mine are not. It comes and goes. I do not hear it with all windows up.
Put the car on a lift and gave it a thourough going over, checked under the hood, etc. with my mechanic, checked the tool box and spare tire area, etc. but all looks fine and no obvious signs.
It's annoying as heck. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Might be your traction control / ESP kicking in?
YOu mention that it only happens on rough / uneven roads...
I get 'metallic' noises too when going thru off-camber switchbacks and other situations where one wheel slips. I think it is the traction control devices kicking in?
