The other day, I got four perfect-condition black velour headrests out of a 94 100 in a local wrecking yard. The moment I saw them, I knew I wanted them so I could put them in my 94 S4 V8 avant and then preserve the OE Jacquard cloth headrests that are currently in the avant. One problem: sedan rear posts are different than avant rear posts (and Euro avant rear posts are different than NAmerican UrS4/100 avant rear posts - but that is another story).

Since I had two spare rear UrS4 headrests, I used them to learn how to swap the posts and, perhaps, also show how UrS4 headrests could potentially be recovered by a professional auto upholsterer.

Here are the steps I took in this learning exercise that I want to share:



























This might give hope to someone with sun-damaged UrS4 rear headrests who happens to find some good front UrS4 headrests. It would be as easy as removing the rear headrests and swapping the posts to the good headrests and re-installing.
