I have a 2010 Q5 and connected an old iPad2 to the AMI. I downloaded songs from Apple Music to the iPad and they show up in my music on the 3G MMI just like any other purchased song. I download the music at home keep the iPad offline in the car so a wifi only iPad should work fine. It's not the full experience of streaming, but it's a great middle ground! (and yes I have heard of A2DP adapters). Unfortunately this won't work with old iPods because of content protection.
