Default Radio works, CD works, No sound. MOST Bus?

Hello!
I have a problem with my sound system
Audi A5 2.5 2005 year model
MMI Basic Plus
The radio / MMI / CD works but i get no sound from the speakers.

Sometimes when i start the MMI the screen lights up and then goes black and starts again.
I can play cds, i can see the seconds go up.

I have read a bit about the MOST Bus.
I disconnected the optical cable going to the amp
When i turn the ignition on i can see a red light from the optical cable but after a couple of seconds it flashes and then goes out.

Is the red light supposed to light up all the time?
I suspect that their might be a glitch in the optics so thats why it flashes and then goes out. What i have read so far is that the amplifier is the last unit in the ring?
So the next step i thought would be to disconnect CD changer and see how the optics behave when it is disconnected.

This fault has been for 2 years, the workshop hasnt been able to find the problem.
Kind regards
Kevin

From what I've read the MOST bus is a ring, so things will stop working when there's a break. Unplugging things would be one way to create such a break, so I'm not surprised the master controller is switching the ring off after a while.

To test which device is responsible you'll need a device which you can see here:

VAG makes their own version of that. Since it's fiber optic the light should always be on in the cable (which you can't normally see, of course).

Where can i locate the radio unit?
All i can read is that it is located with the amp but i cant see any other unit except the amp in the left compartment.

The CD player lights up and it is possible to insert and take out cds.
I want to fix the electrical and optical connection before taking the car to the dealers for coding and resetting component protection.

Easiest might be to buy short time access on Audi's ErWin site (there's one for the U.S. and one for Europe) so you can download all the schematics and "repair" manuals and such for your car. It will tell you exactly where everything is and how to take it apart and put it back together, including the tools required.

Thanks, will check it out.
Anybody know what the optical loop looks like?
It feel like it goes gateway - amp - control head - cd player radio.
So because of comp protection on control head signal optical signal doesnt go further.
But would that cause a electrical error also?

Default Works

The radio/media player was replaced. Location in the glovebox.
After this the comp protection alarms got reset by the workshop and now it works.
Thank you for all replies
