Funny used car dealer story...
So I went to check out that "46,000" Q7 today. It's some ghetto looking lot near Market Village. So as I parked my car, I was greeted by someone coming out from a trailer/portable. He's like, "come in come in". Felt like I was buying something illegal.
So I told him I was wanted to see the Q7, he grabbed the keys and let me see the car. The interior looks more used than it was stated (26,000KM). My 50,000KM A3 looked much newer. When I asked for a test drive, he told me to go in again. I honestly thought I was going to get robbed soon and you guys will see an A3 on their lot next week. S
o he showed me some numbers. 59,999 he said was the original price. Discounted to 47000, so I told him it's 45999 on auto trader, so he changed it to 45999. Then he started writing a bunch of numbers. 45999 + 450 + 2999... I knew something was wrong already but I decided to let him continue to see what he's up to. If anything I can get a good laugh out of this trip. So he explained that the 450 is a transfer fee. So I asked him to explain, he said it's a transfer fee from VW lease. Then I told him I thought it was a US car, then he said, yeah, it's off a lease from a VW company in US. So I went along, and asked what the 2999 is. He said it's a recondition fee. So I asked what is there to recondition. He said, oh, it's for stuff like Emmission check and Safety check. So I told him those would cost $100. (Thank god I just sold my G) Then he said, oh, it's a package. So the next logical question would be... what package. So he explained it was for detailing and stuff.
So at that point I was ready to walk out. And as a used car salesman should do, he stopped me and said what price I was looking for. So I quoted the 2 prices I got from the 2 Dealers (Alex x 2), and he asked me which dealers? So I told him, and he checked autotrader. He said they are different cars. I said, it's a Q7 and they are both V6s. Then he said they don't have Navs so you can't compare. I replied, you are right, they are different because they are better. They have a sunroof which you can't retro fit. I can retrofit the Nav for $1000. So I guess at that point he already realize he's not going to get my business. I politely thanked him for his time as I wanted to walk out there alive.
Note to self, never enter one of these shady lots.
