Aral

Agip

Pentosin

Motul

Elf

Total

Fuchs

German Castrol (SLX) 0w-30..."GC"
Belgian Syntec 5w-40..."BC"
Castrol Formula RS aka BP Visco 9000.

Mobil 1 5w-50 (Best-Selling visc of Mobil 1 in Europe, n/a in N. America)

Shell Helix Ultra (Ferrari)

It's a pretty good discussion group with professional Triboligists, Industry people, Phd Organic Chemists, Lubrication Engineers and even a Propulsion Engineer.

We all pitched in for a VERY expensive (>$1,000) and comrehensive mass spec of German Syntec SLX 0w-30, results are floating around...only people who donated to the "Z"-oil (GC) study have copies of the final report and cannot disclose it in it's entirety. (no prob for me, I lost mine)

Looks like SLX aka "GC" is a co-olgimer base with esters derived from these same complex PAOs catalyized by methacrylate, containing NO VIIs.

Seems that the Germans like their oil chemistry cutting-edge.

"When blended with PAO/ester, ester oil, or mineral oils, the co-oligomers showed the expected advantages...Because of the wide viscosity range of the co-oligomers themselves, a wide range of viscosities can be adjusted WITHOUT any high molecular-weight [VII's] substance which might cause shear problems. Because of the combination of polar and nonpolar structures in the molecule, there are no miscibility problems with the base fluid components. In addition, the solvent capacity towards all kinds of of additives is good...These co-oligomer blends show high VI values and very good low temperature viscosities...Mixtures of alkyl methacrylate/olefin co-oligomers with low viscosity fluids have high VI values and excellent low temperature properties, which ought to be of advantage in gear oil and engine oil formulations."

Anyway, what we do need is more guys with experience in these brands and even the rare person who has technical knowledege. Anyway, the Forum is there for you to enjoy and participate. It was originally my idea so you all are definately invited.

Thanks.

The German Castrol SLX is now widely available here, so the interest in Euro oils is piqued.

Above is a pic of the GC (SLX) bottle rear as it appears here in USA.

http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=51</a

But there are also more windbags than you can shake a stick at. ;-)
