Default 2012 3.2 Premium Plus

Hi folks - potential new owner of a 2012 3.2 with premium plus package.
Just want to check on any known issues with this year and model. I believe this one is not at all affected by the dieselgate issue... but it is definitely affected by the airbag recall.

Is there anything else that I should be aware of?

in the middle of negotiating price and extended warranty with dealer...

Are there any packages/features I am missing? Dealer mentioned that this Premium package is the best one. What about the Prestiege package?

Also i need to check on tires.. do they come with summer tires? or all season?

thanks all !

Personally, I'd look for a 2013 with the new 3.0T engine instead, unless you're getting a steal of a price on the 3.2. Ext. warranty would be key.

This is not a diesel vehicle.

2012 was the last year of this 3.2 engine. It is direct injected engine, with no turbocharger. The engine has an issue with carbon build-up. Audi has extended the warranty related to carbon build-up under certain conditions. Make sure you get the extended CPO warranty which should absolutely cover you for 7 years / 100,000 miles from in service date.

You can get a 2012 with a 2.0T engine. That has less problem with carbon as far as we know.

The 2013-16 models have the 2.0T (turbocharged) and 3.0T (supercharged) engines in addition to the TDI diesel. It is unknown to me whether the carbon build-up issue will repeat in these engines. Also, the navigation is updated in 2013-16 with Audi Connect functionality. You need to decide if that is important to you.

almost 55,000 miles, 90% city driving and NO carbon issues. We use premium gas from better stations (BP, Mobil) only.
In fact, except for the DRL module and water pump replacement (that happen in the 1st year of ownership), no problems at all.

Only a few people reported CB issue on this or other forums, I wonder how many Q5s Audi sold between '09 and '12.
AND the 2009-2012 came with 6-speed tranny that is very reliable and had not been a problem unlike the 8-speed w/ its gear hunting, etc. that was used w/ 2.0T and 3.0T motors

my only advice would be that if you happen to have some extra $$ spend it now on the 3.0T vehicle vs. the 3.2. I've driven both and the difference is quite noticeable, plus the 3.0T engine is one of the most rock solid engines in the Audi line-up.

While in general I'm not crazy about a trans with so many gears, and about Audi's programming of this 8-speed ZF trans, I haven't really noticed any gear hunting on ours.

Mee either. Compared to the CVT in our Nissan Rogue this trans is perfect.
