Any details on next Gen Q5?
Yes, we need the triple turbo TDI.
2016 Audi Q5 Release date, Interior, Review, Specs
It's getting time to replace the 2005 allroad, which acts as a tow vehicle.
I love the 2.7T manual transmission, but it's got 155k on it and I'd like some new tech.
do we have any idea of tech, pricing, trim levels, and options on the new Q5? Will it be a MY2016 or MY2017 model?

- Goals:
- Better MPG
- more torq
- comfort
- commuter car (mpg)
- tow vehicle (torque)
- family car (2 kids - XXL Thule box on top for vacation)

There has been some talk and speculation on the next gen. Seems like not too much confirmed though.
One thing is certain, it will be built in a new plant in Mexico. Whether or not that is a bad thing, is up to the individual.

With the "all new" 2016 Q7 released... it seems that the Q-line will maintain some similar style features, right? Some of the "new" Q5 concepts online seem to mimic the design of the 2016 Q7... at least I think so.
I've heard mixed reviews about the 2016 Q7 design changes. Since I'm not too excited about the 2016 Q7, I'm leaning toward ordering a 2016 SQ5 built in Germany. I've always heard new generations of autos have problems... on top of the new plant in Mexico - honestly I'm worried.

Why wait? Why not get a new tdi? seems like it meets all of your requirements.
If i know audi, the only thing you'll get is a very slightly revised body with the same basic design and they'll call it a refresh. They've done this for years with their entire model lineup. The only thing I think we'll really get is the new MMI with touch pad and the new virtual cockpit dash like the TT & Q7

MLB2 platform is an expensive sophisticated platform to be used for their top end brands. Q5 (as well as Q7) will be on this platform. You can infer a lot from the Q7 that has just been released. The TDI engine for the US will most likely not change if you extrapolate from the VW side of the house. The costs of certification will guarantee you will not see a triple turbo TDI...
I think a Q5v2 with significant weight savings would be very desirable, also the fancy new dashboard (look at the TTv3).
Quite possibly later in its life would be e-quattro... the rear drive portion replaced by electric motors... This would unfortunately negate a lot of the weight savings of MLB2 but at least you lose the center diff, rear diff and driveshafts going to the rear.
My concern about the Q5v2 is that the TDI engine gets downgraded to the 150 bhp 4 cylinder one since it has lost weight. Right now the Q5 TDI is the special model because look over at BMW and MB they only offer clacky relatively gutless 4 bangers.. Bye bye hot rod TDI...

yes, european market does not have the certification nightmare of the US market. in a nutshell each engine costs a bomb to certify. So 2 diesel engines will have to make do for the entire lineup. the 150 bhp 4 cylinder and the single turbo 240 bhp V6 3.0. There were promises to bring in the 180 bhp golf GTD but even that got dropped. So imagine, something much more mass market like the golf GTD cannot justify a different engine, what are the chances of a triple turbo V6 TDI? I say zero... They can't even bring in the twin turbo TDI for the SQ5, instead substituting a souped up V6 supercharged gasoline engine. And it doesn't appear that SQ5 buyers here mind too much about what they are missing out on.

The answer is simple, on US market TDI engines are not popular
Take up only 15-17% of sales vs. petrol engines (for all brands and models not only Audi)

The BiTurbo TDI in the SQ5 would have been preferable to me from a power, torque, and knowing what AudiSport has done with TDI engines.
However, a high-end tuned supercharged V6 3.0T sounds just find to me also.
I'm excited to have it under the hood. Sure it's not quite the torque, but it's a fun engine.
